Beached Boat

Going back and forth to the Red Cross Service Center One along highway 98 each morning and evening while there for the Hurricane Ivan follow-up I longed to snap this boat. It was too dark when we headed home in the evening and no one who tried could figure out how to free the passenger windows in the van we were using to go up or down. So I headed here on my last Sunday to take this and other pictures. Someone has placed a sign advertising a yacht recovery business in front of it. You could wonder if it is worth more beached so prominently along a major thoroughfare or in the water.

Cotton Boll

I spent three weeks with the Red Cross in Pensacola, Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan. On the way down, we stopped in a cotton field. Two of us had never seen cotton growing before. It was general knowledge that the cotton crop had been ruined. Some of the cotton was on the ground, which would make it impossible to harvest by machine. This boll, however, looks great to me.
